Q. how did you come to write Summer of Two Wishes?

A. I was intrigued by the lives of people around me who had sons, daughters, spouses and other family members going off to war and coming home, some of them after multiple tours. I thought about the changes families and soldiers go through during long separations and how some are better than others at reclaiming the lives they once had. I wanted to test the ultimate bounds of change: What if a woman was told her soldier husband, the love of her life, had died in the war? What if she struggled to accept his death and finally picked herself up and went on with her life? What if she fell in love again? What if...what if it was all a mistake and he wasn't dead after all?
